A new service now being facilitated by Al Read Electrical is the maintenance and up-grading of local authority public lighting assets mounted on live ESB overhead networks (ESBN). This considerable investment by Al Read Electrical in specialist C class 46 thousand volt (46KV) accesses equipment, specialist live working tools and equipment and advanced live network training delivered by ESB training services allows us to provide total Public lighting solutions to local authorities. With senior management having a background in ESB networks our understanding of what is required from both a safety and technical stand point has been integral to allowing Al Read Electrical to add this operation seamlessly to our list of services. The company as a whole has benefited from the establishment of Network Operation services, increasing the technical knowledge of all staff and hence ensuring greater safety awareness across the company.
As part of the process, in association Meath County Council, we have been independently audited by Lloyds Register through their Street Lighting Contractor Accreditation Scheme (SLCAS). Having received full accreditation from Lloyds and continued compliance with the SLCAS, has ensured that the company is fully equipped to deliver the best possible service to Meath County Council and other network operations customers.
Cable Fault Location
Our expertise and specialists equipment in the area of cable fault location/identification and repair allows us to provide this essential service of pin pointing cable faults. Depending on the site location this service can greatly reduce the cost of repair to underground cable faults by avoiding unnecessary civil works and reducing material costs on expensive cable replacements. It also enables a more efficient repair thus reducing in the case of public lighting unsafe and lengthy lamp outages
High Mast Lighting
This type of lighting is usually located on Motorway interchanges and major traffic junctions. We are fully equipped and certified to carry out all types of high mast operations including installation and maintenance. An integral aspect of our services to local authorities is the availability of a 24 hour emergency response team available to deal with dangerous occurrences, such as motor traffic accidents involving public lighting columns and large scale public lighting failures, for example motor way outages/national primary route outages which may present a danger to the public.

Civil Works Division
Al Read Electrical can deliver both directly and indirectly all types of major and minor civil works required in order to facilitate all our public lighting installation, maintenance, up-grading and fault repair requirements. All our civil works staff are experienced and trained as necessary in number of areas including, safe pass, use of digging equipment, abrasive wheels, location of underground services, deployment of traffic management (signing lighting and guarding at roadwork’s).
